Woodventurers are committed to delivering a high quality Alternative Provision across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and beyond. Our priority is to offer the best support we can to learners whilst working closely with schools/referrers to ensure our work is effective and we are successful in helping learners grow and progress. We see ourselves as partners in their education and are equally dedicated to meeting our learners’ current needs and aiming towards reaching EHCP targets.
Woodland Learning is a relational approach which captures the positive elements of mainstream and specialist schooling, alongside Curriculum Based Outdoor Learning. We also incorporate the key themes of the Forest School principles and use a child centred holistic approach incorporating more risky elements such as bushcraft. Woodland Learning is also a therapeutic provision and we focus on helping learners develop emotional literacy and self regulation. Where we can and where it is appropriate, we include academic learning and help learners develop a range of transferrable skills to enable them to succeed in an appropriate education setting. We provide a bespoke programme of learning tailored to a learner’s needs which builds on current ability enabling them to move forward at a pace which works best for them.
We believe that the best way to do this is to work with referrers and schools, other professionals and other stakeholders in a child’s educational journey with clear and ongoing communication with you about their programme of learning. We also work closely with parents/carers to help support a learner’s wider needs in the context of their Woodland Learning sessions.
Our strong team of tutors deliver well planned and appropriately resourced sessions in our woodland settings. Sessions are planned around long term Aims and Objectives to ensure a tailored approach. After each session, tutors feedback to the coordinator and then write detailed evaluations on session content, recording successes and learning progress. The programme coordinator uses this information to write regular progress reports, which you will receive.
We take safeguarding very seriously and all tutors are trained to look out for any concerning behaviours or patterns which may be cause for concern. All staff have access to My Concern to record their concerns and will always report directly to their coordinator and/or DSL who will follow up anything more immediate. Whilst tutors work more remotely, they are well supported and we have robust procedures in place to protect both learners and staff from harm. We manage the more risky elements of Forest School and woodland learning sessions with thorough risk assessments which can be viewed on request.
